MJF’s Top 10 Promos That Stole the Show

Last Updated on April 16, 2024 by Avik Das

Maxwell Jacob Friedman,  better known as MJF to wrestling fans, is one of the exciting talents of the squared circle at the moment. The current AEW World Champion is adept on the microphone,  placing him among the great talkers of the current generation. His dialogue delivery, facial expressions, and bold attitude to slander his opponents make him a crowd-puller and one of the biggest draws of All Elite Wrestling. While MJF’s promos are quite impressive, his in-ring ability can’t be undermined. MJF might wrestle occasionally, but he is capable of producing high-quality matches, including the sixty-minute Iron Man match against Bryan Danielson.

Following its inception in 2019, the AEW roster had MJF, who was in his early 20s back then. From day one, MJF showed his exceptional skills on the mic by cutting great promos and owning a majority of his opponents. His talking power and suitable charisma were the reasons his feuds generate a high level of interest among fans. Below are some best promo work done by the former AEW Champion.

#10 “I’m The Guy Who Is Gonna Be Leading The Company For The Next 25 Years” (AEW Dynamite, July 29, 2020)

During the pandemic era, the wrestling companies struggled without the live crowd, but there weren’t any short-of-good promos. MJF gave a presidential-style speech on an episode of AEW Dynamite. The speech turned out to be iconic. With Jon Moxley being the world champion, he took a shot at him throughout the promo. The best moment of the promo came when he said his talent would outweigh his world title tenure and that he was gonna lead the company for the next twenty-five years. When he was the champion, he was backing up those words.

#9 “You Claim To Be The Best In The World But I’m Better Than You And You Know It” (AEW Dynamite,  November 24, 2021)

The feud between MJF and CM Punk was probably one of the greatest rivalries, not just in AEW but also in modern-day wrestling. Given the mic skills of both men, the promo battle between them was anticipated to break records, and it didn’t disappoint. They tore each other down with fire of words, disparaging their careers. While Punk referred to how MJF was a fan of his, the latter came back with Punk’s failed UFC career and struggle in his WWE career. But the best part of that promo was when he said that Punk was the best in the world,  but he was better than him and he knew it

#8 “I Will Not Quit! Because If I Quit,  Then I Would Be No Better Than You” (AEW Dynamite,  February 23, 2022)

Again, MJF produced a top-quality promo while feuding with CM Punk, but a couple of months after their first face-off. Upon getting challenged in a dog collar match,  MJF came out to deliver a solo promo,  taking jibes at his rival. Even though it was a lengthy and incredible promo, the best part was saying that he wouldn’t quit because if he would quit then he wouldn’t be better than CM Punk.

#7 ” You Stupid,  Stupid Old Man. I’m A Snake.  The Greatest Trick Devil Ever Pulled Was Convincing The World He Doesn’t Exist” (AEW Dynamite,  February 3, 2022)

It’s no surprise that another promo between CM Punk and MJF has ranked in the top ten of this list.  Just before AEW Revolution 2022, the two came face to face.  It was more of a CM Punk promo, but it turned into an MJF’s promo for his lines at the end. MJF called Punk stupid man. Then Maxwell called himself a devil,  saying the greatest trick devil ever pulled was convincing him he didn’t exist.

#6 “You F****** Mark,  Fire Me” (AEW Dynamite,  January 6, 2022)

With the signature MJF scarf, he came to the ring wearing a red shirt. He cut a solo promo talking about his position in the company and talked directly to Tony Khan through the camera. It was not clear whether MJF was unhappy with his position in the company for real.  Nevertheless, the promo was beautifully articulated and convincing. In that fierce promo, MJF talked a lot about his Boss Tony Khan. But the best part of the segment was when he called Tony a ‘mark’ and begged to fire him.

#5 “This Is Time To Be A Legend” (AEW Dynamite,  July 9, 2022)

Wearing the iconic MJF scarf as well as the red shirt, he had a face-off with Jon Moxley on the edition of AEW Dynamite. Just like a classic MJF, affronted New York City, their football team, as well as, Jon Moxley,  who was standing there. Throughout the promo, he talked about winning the Vacate AEW World Championship. However, his best line was when said it was his time to be a legend.

#4 “You Have Had Easy, Sunshine! ” (AEW Dynamite,  October 18, 2022)

MJF this time confronted William Regal in the ring,  but this time,  his promo was a little unconventional.  He didn’t talk about having AEW World Championship,  but he did talk about his life story and how he worked to get into the wrestling business. But MJF’s excellent storytelling ability made the promo exciting, placing it among his best segments.

#3 “I’m Gonna Start Calling You ‘The Pebble” (AEW Dynamite,  July 12, 2022)

Ricky Stark and MJF,  the two exceptional young talents of AEW,  had a heated confrontation on an episode of AEW. Following Ricky’s win of Dynamite Diamond Ring 2022 Battle Royal,  MJF had to him meet face to face, creating a splendid promo battle. Comparing Ricky Stark’s striking similarity with The Rock,  MJF called him a dollar store Dwyane. He further said that he would start calling him the pebble,  which is the opposite of a rock.  To answer MJF, Ricky Stark also had a fitting comeback, with the latter calling him a fifth-rate Roddy Piper.

#2 I’m A Scumbag & I’m Damn Proud Of It”

The interview promos are interesting, as wrestlers bring a different personality while answering questions. Lexy Nair,  the AEW broadcaster, once took an interview of the great MJF, and he ended up giving one of the top MJF’s promos.  He talked about his high school crush and belittled Bryan Danielson. Approving his heel persona, he said he was a scumbag and he was damn proud of it.  He created heat as a bad guy through thsi promo.

#1 “Hi Birdie! Hi Buddy! It’s Your Uncle Max Here” (AEW Dynamite,  February 22, 2023)

MJF showed his proficiency in the ring by competing in an Iron Man match against Bryan Danielson earlier this year. Their bouts were among the best matches in AEW,  but their promos were nothing short of spectacular. The fans got to know about MJF fiancé and their break up. MJF taunted Bryan’s family, mentioning Brie Bella. And he said hi to Bryan’s kids on TV.  The promo was a little off from his audacious insults to his opponents.  He looked emotional during that promo.
