6 WWE Icons Who Never Attained Grand Slam Champion Glory

Last Updated on April 16, 2024 by Avik Das

WWE is the theater of dreams, where the titanic names of the business clash, the greatest spectacles of sports entertainment take place, larger-than-life personas prosper, and a global audience follows each show. While every WWE Superstar desires to become a WWE Champion, getting the coveted Grand Slam Champion tag can complete a legendary career with all title wins. To be eligible Grand Slam Champion, one has to win the United States Title, Intercontinental Title, Tag Team Title, and a world title.

However, it is not the only criterion to evaluate legacy. Despite creating unforgettable memories, giving incredible matches, and spending decades in WWE, several WWE legends and Hall of Famers aren’t fortunate enough to become Grand Slam Champions. This article talks about those legends who missed out the opportunity of touching the feat.

#6 The Undertaker

The Undertaker‘s incredibly lengthy career and achievements could place him in WWE’s Mount Rushmore. After digging holes and taking souls in the squared circle, The Deadman received a Hall of Fame induction in 2022. For the majority of his WWE career, The Phenom was either in the world title picture or a high-profile non-title feud. Even though he won the tag team titles multiple times, his main event status gave him fewer opportunities in the mid-card division, preventing him from getting the the status.

#5 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar debuted as the ‘next big thing’ and became the second-fastest man to capture the WWE Championship. His impressive physique and dominant character placed him in the main event scene from his debut year. The continuous pursuit of world titles and a part-time schedule as a wrestler denied The Beast Incarnate to attain the honor. Brock Lesnar never won mid-card titles or tag team titles. He has won the Universal Championship and WWE Championship, taking his total world championship tallies to ten.

#4 John Cena

John Cena is one of the greatest ever to step foot in the WWE.  He was the face of the company throughout his full-time,  consistently headlining big pay-per-views, main-eventing weekly shows, and creating some spectacular rivalries against top heels. Cena’s sixteen World Championship triumphs have cemented his legacy as a legend, placing him equally with Ric Flair,  who has the same number of world title reigns to his name. With his US Open challenge,  John Cena lifted the prestige of the United States Championship whenever he wore it around his waist. He is a five-time US Champion. The Leader of Cenation became the Tag Team Champions four times in his career. Unfortunately, the Intercontinental Title is still not on his list of title wins.

#3 Stone Cold Steve Austin

Stone Cold Steve Austin’s popularity, aura, rebellious character, and drawing power would put him at WWE’s Mount Rushmore.  He was responsible for the company’s big triumph over WCW in the Monday Night Wars, garnering a record number of views on Monday Night RAW.  Bret Hart,  Vince McMahon,  The Rock,  and The Undertaker were the most notable nemesis of The Texas Rattlesnake in the Attitude Era.   As a top star, Stone Cold Steve Austin was in contention for the WWE Championship for the majority of his WWE career.  In this process, he ended his career as a six-time World Champion. Grabbing the Intercontinental Championship was another significant feat of Steve Austin. However, he didn’t win the European Title, which was equivalent to the present-day United States Championship.  The absence of the European Championship has stopped him from becoming the Grand Slam Champion of WWE.

#2 The Rock

Stone Cold Steve Austin’s most popular rival and peer, The Rock, played an equally pivotal role as the former in the Attitude Era.  The chemistry and intensity between the feuds of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock led to three WrestleMania matches.  His witty catchphrases, comic timing, and ludicrous insults were the primary reasons for his overwhelming success, giving him the tag of one of the greatest on the microphone. His charisma and talking skills transitioned into Hollywood,  as he is one of the elite actors in Hollywood today. The Rock started off his career winning the Intercontinental Championship.  Then he also won the Tag Team belts with three different tag team partners. Given his position as a top star,  The Great One was one of the best WWE Champions of all time, becoming a ten-time world champion in WWE despite a comparatively short career in WWE. He neither won the European Title nor the United States Title.

#1 Hulk Hogan

Arguably the most popular professional wrestler to ever live; Hulk Hogan was the epitome of strength, larger a larger-than-life persona, and unmatchable charisma. He was the man to popularize professional wrestling or WWE, in general,  in the 1980s. Wearing the iconic red and yellow ring gear and flexing his 24 inches of pythons’, The Hulkster would destroy the bad guys to become the most lovable babyface in the era. Besides the Golden Era, Hulk Hogan enjoyed a decent run in the Ruthless Aggression Era. While his first stint was all about WWE Championship stints as the main guy of the company, his second stint consisted of a world title and a tag team title run. He was never a holder of a mid-card title.
