Professional Wrestling isn’t an easy job, where everyone manages to sustain on a long-term. As it is a highly physical job, injuries are parts and parcels of the sport. While many wrestlers get injured, other health complications are quite common as well, especially when wrestlers leave the sport or get old. 


With growing age, health complications like stroke, heart failure, and many other different problems are faced by wrestlers. A handful of wrestlers have survived such health problems over the years, but some have also surrendered to it, even at a comparatively young age. Needless to say, using performance-enhancing drugs played a big role in such health issues in old-school wrestlers. Many WWE wrestlers died due to health failures in the past. The wrestler that recently died due to heart complications was Scott Hall. Let’s take a look at the known WWE wrestlers that died due to heart issues. 

#10 Roddy Piper

Roddy Piper is regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers to ever grace the ring of professional wrestling. Piper’s charisma was unmatched, and he was one of the best heels of his era. Piper’s superior talking skills made him a fan favorite. Piper never became a WWE Champion, but he headlined many shows and was a former Intercontinental Champion. Roddy Piper’s age was 61 when he died in 2016. Sadly, he died in his sleep. Roddy Piper’s cause of death was a sudden heart attack.

#9 Eddie Guerrero 

Eddie Guerrero was a former WWE Champion who made an impact in the Ruthless Aggression Era. He was very effective as a heel, and he was certainly a crowd puller. Guerrero became a Grand Slam Champion in WWE, winning all the active titles.
Eddie Guerrero’s age was just 38 when he tragically passed away in 2005. The cause of Eddie Guerrero’s death was heart failure.

#8 Bruno Sammartino

Bruno Sammartino was a legend of old-school wrestling. He was a two-time WWE Champion, and he was also the longest-reigning WWE Champion in WWE history, holding the belt for a record 2803 days during his first reign. Sammartino was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He was known as the ‘The Strongest Man in the World’. Sammartino died at the old age of 82, but he was going through heart issues in the latter days of his life. He had heart surgery in 2011. Sammartino’s death was caused by various failures in organs due to his heart issues. As he passed away in 2018, Sammartino was a wrestler that died recently due to heart problems. 

#7 Viscera


Viscera wrestled under different names in WWE. He was known as Mabel, Viscera, and Big Daddy V. Weighing nearly 500 pounds, Viscera was one of the biggest wrestlers in WWE. The highlight of his career was winning the King of the Ring in 1995. He was one of the WWE wrestlers that died at the young age of 43. Like Eddie Guerrero, Viscera was a wrestler who died before 50. His death happened due to an unfortunate heart attack.

#6 British Bulldog

British Bulldog was among the best mid-carders in WWE. He was a two-time WWE European Champion and one-time Intercontinental Champion. His most notable success was beating his real-life brother-in-law Bret Hart to win the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 1992. British Bulldog left the world before even turning 40. His cause of death was a heart attack. He was certainly one of the top WWE wrestlers that died too early and had a potentially great career ahead. 

#4 & 5 The Road Warriors ( Road Warrior Animal & Road Warrior Hawk)

Regarded as one of the greatest tag teams in history, The Road Warriors were the most famous tag teams in the early 1990s. They had warrior-looking gears and amazing face paints. They won the Tag Team Championships twice in WWE. The Road Warriors were also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.Incidentally, both the Road Warrior members died due to heart attacks. Road Warrior Animal died in 2020 while Road Warrior Hawk passes away in 2003.

#3 The Ultimate Warrior 

Along with Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior was another huge name in the wrestling world back in the late 1980s as well as the early 1990s. His popularity went to another level after beating Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 6. Warrior was also a one-time Intercontinental Champion. The Ultimate Warrior tragically passed away right after WrestleMania 30. He even appeared on RAW just a day before his death. The Ultimate Warrior’s death cause was a sudden heart attack.

#2 Randy Savage 

Randy Savage was a gigantic main eventer in the Golden Era, headlining various pay-per-views of WWE, including WrestleMania 4, WrestleMania 5, and WrestleMania 7. Randy Savage won the WWE Championship twice in his career, and he was also a former Intercontinental Champion. Randy Savage was 58 years old when he suddenly deceased. The cause of his death was a heart attack while driving his car. He was a top WWE wrestler who died for having a heart attack.

#1 Scott Hall


Scott Hall was first known as Razor Ramon in WWE. With that character, he had notable success in the New Generation Era. Even though he never won the WWE Championship, Hall was a four-time Intercontinental Champion. After leaving WWE, Hall also had tremendous success in WCW as a member of nWo. Scott Hall was a wrestler that died recently. First, Hall was hospitalized and then suffered 3 heart attacks that caused Scott Hall’s death. Scott Hall died in March 2022 and at the time of his death, he was 63 years old.
