Hulk Hogan And Macho Man: 5 Interesting Things About Their Real-Life Relationship

Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage were two distinctive personalities of WWE’s Golden Era. Despite the differences in their personalities,  they were the two biggest stars of the 1980s,  allowing WWE to build one of the greatest storylines revolving around them and creating two greatest stars in pro-wrestling history. They managed WrestleMania 5 against each other fighting for the WWE Championship.

Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage formed a tag team in the late 1980s, calling them The Mega Powers, with Miss Elizabeth in charge as a manager. They were an unbeatable force as a tag team; they regularly headlined major shows of the company; and they beat other top talents.  Like a majority of storylines, the brotherhood of The Mega Powers failed to stay intact due to the growing jealousy of Randy Savage towards the closeness of Miss Elizabeth and Hulk Hogan. In the end,  The Mega Powers exploded to embark on a rivalry between them.  

Other than WWE,  The Hulkster and Macho Man worked in WCW.  While these are on-screen stories about them that many fans know of, these are some real-life facts about the two Golden Era stars you might not know of.  

#5 Hulk Hogan And Macho Man Had A Big Real-Life Beef 

Yes, you saw in the storyline when the Mega Powers exploded over Savage’s gorgeous wife, Miss Elizabeth. The Macho Man felt that The Hulkster was getting too close to his real and kayfabe wife, prompting him to turn heel.  Interestingly, the two on-screen best friends turned foes had a similar ending to their real-life friendship. 

Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, the first wrestling power couple,  divorced in 1992. Meanwhile, Randy Savage blamed Hulk Hogan and his then-wife, Linda, implying they were the reasons for his separation from Miss Elizabeth.  When Hulk Hogan and Macho Man were working together,  they formed a close relationship outside the ring, which included their respective wives.  Savage believed that Hogan and Linda influenced Elizabeth against him,  which was a major reason for the divorce.  

#4 Randy Savage Received Acting Break Due To Hulk Hogan

Before The Rock, Batista, and John Cena jumped ship from professional wrestling to acting, it was Hulk Hogan who first attempted to be a top Hollywood actor but failed drearily. In his heyday, The Hulkster starred in some notable movies and TV series. The popular TV show Baywatch had Hulk Hogan’s special appearance, and he brought Randy Savage with him there,  giving the latter his first acting gig.

Both Hulk Hogan and Macho Man made guest appearances on Baywatch. Later on, Randy Savage had some acting roles, with the most notable one as Bonesaw McGraw in the 2002 Spiderman movie.  

#3 Randy Savage Made A Diss Song Aimed At Hulk Hogan

While their real-life dissonance started with Savage’s divorce, the relationship eventually improved when the two big stars worked in WCW. Their WrestleMania 5 rematch took place again in WCW.  However, their friendship outside the ring deteriorated once again, with the flamboyant Macho Man taking it too far this time. 

Randy Savage debuted his studio album called ‘Be a Man’. The title track of the album was evidently aimed at his old friend turned nemesis, Hulk Hogan. The song showed where Hulk Hogan and Macho Man’s relationship stood in 2003. Meanwhile, The Hulkster didn’t respond to this diss track, as he was busy wrestling in WWE. 

#2 Randy Savage’s TNA Career Was Cut Short Because Of Hulk Hogan 

WWE and WCW weren’t the only promotions Randy Savage worked for. He had a brief TNA run.  His TNA career was limited to two pay-per-views and a multi-man tag team match. Given his age and fitness, he could have continued his it for at least a few years, especially considering many of his peers were there at that time. However,  the reason for Savage’s abrupt departure from TNA was the real-life relationship between Hulk Hogan and Macho Man.

Hulk Hogan’s presence in the TNA roster coerced Randy Savage to quit the company.   Their real-life rift made things uncomfortable for Randy Savage. On the other hand,  Hulk Hogan was TNA’s biggest acquisition back then, even though he switched back to WWE a year later.  Had Randy Savage stayed in TNA, we could have seen another historic feud in the TNA ring between the two Golden Era megastars.  

#1 They Settled Their Differences Before Randy Savage’s Death 

Randy Savage’s untimely demise due to heart attack in 2011 shocked the wrestling world. Nevertheless,  despite their rift in real life, Hogan said in an interview that they had settled their differences just before his death. Well, we can’t confirm the truth behind this statement, but Hogan explained how things were resolved and recalled their last meeting.  

Hulk Hogan and Macho Man resided in Tampa,  and they happened to accidentally see each other at times.  According to The Hulkster, he met Randy Savage in a doctor’s office and had a great conversation. Following it, he even invited his former peer to dinner and a barbeque party.
