An Overview Of WWE SmackDown Results (September 29, 2023)

Last Updated on April 3, 2024 by Avik Das

RAW might have been affected by ongoing football games, but SmackDown has been doing a great job despite the long absence of champion,  Roman Reigns. This week WWE hyped the episode of Blue Brand with high-voltage matches and the appearance of the legendary John Cena.

The United States Championship was on the line, with Rey Mysterio defending the belt against his long-term admirer, Santos Escobar. Charlotte Flair was scheduled to take on Bayley, while Bobby Lashley was advertised to be tbe guest on The Grayson Waller effect.  Last but not least, an appearance of John Cena with an eye for revenge following the brutal beat down from The Bloodline last week.  We take a look at the WWE SmackDown results from this week’s episode on September 29, 2023.

Jimmy Uso Defeated Karl Anderson

Following the assault on John Cena last week, the bad blood between Bloodline and John Cena has risen.  But the latter was announced to be late for the show, and Bloodline members,  Jimmy Usos, Solo Sikoa, and wise man Paul Heyman opened the show. Interestingly, Karl Anderson interrupted the opening segment, leading to the first match of the night between Jimmy Uso and Karl Anderson. With the Uce dominating the match, it was an easy win for him.

Austin Theory Defeated Cameron Grimes

Following the Grayson Waller Effect show,  Grayson’s newly found best friend headed to the ring to have a singles match. It was another one-sided battle, with A-Town Down coming out victorious. But the aftermath of the match hinted at a new feud for Austin Theory.  Dragon Lee, who had an impressive match on RAW this week, might be his new rival since Theory had some words for him. Also, their next match was made official for the upcoming SmackDown.

Rey Mysterio Defeated Santos Escober To Retain The United States Championship

There was a title match between Rey Mysterio and Santos Escober.  The US Champion Rey Mysterio defended the title against Escober.  The idol and his follower dynamic in this storyline has worked well so far.  After an incredible outing, Rey won via roll-up. Santos was upset after the defeat, while Zelina Vega’s expressions by the ringside were praiseworthy.  Looked like Santos could finally snap on his idol,  but WWE might have saved it for Fastlane.

Charlotte Flair Defeated Bayley

Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley was a pre-announced match on the blue brand. After a heated exchange of words, the two horsewomen tussled in the ring in a decent match. The Queen pinned the role model, claiming later she would challenge WWE Women’s Champion, Iyo Sky.  However, Bayley made the bout official saying there would be a match between Iyo Sky, Asuka, and Charlotte Flair at WWE Fastlane.

John Cena Finally Arrived & Closed The Show

The fans in Sacramento were disappointed by John Cena’s delayed arrival to the show.  The Leader of Cenation didn’t leave fans unhappy in the closing segment when he finally made an appearance. Like last week, he was cornered by The Bloodline, but this time Cena had a savior. The megastar LA Knight made the save for Cena, with the crowd erupting in joy. LA Knight and John Cena stood tall to close the show this week, and a tag team match between John Cena and LA Knight and The Bloodline was made official for WWE Fastlane.
